I wanted to give you an update on Flint. He is our best friend and one of the family. His third birthday is December 26, and thanks to you he has been with us this long! He does not show any signs of aggression towards to anyone. Kelly and I have adapted our method of dealing with problems. We remain calm and use the commands we have taught him. “Drop it” and “Leave it” are the usual words and he understands them. We never grab an item from him, but ask him to “give”. Otherwise we tell him to “sit,” “stay” and gently pick up the object. This works well, because he sees what we are doing and then we say, “Thank you,” and treat.
He is still a ‘different’ type dog, but you have taught to appreciate the differences and work within that realm. He is partial to the ladies, but doesn’t mind strange men, if we tell him it is okay. He still jumps on people, working on that; and barks at the various wildlife around here. I am able to take him out every day, off leash and play fetch for a little while. He is responsive when I whistle and say “Come”.
He attends a doggie day care once a week and plays well with the other puppies. He is getting very adept at catching the Frisbee and it is a game that he loves.
He is a dear and sweet fellow and I owe so much to you. You taught us how to modify our behavior and reinforce his acceptable behavior.
